"Age spares us nothing, old friend. Like ancient trees, we die from the top." How does one critique a masterwork, particularly one as unique as this? All the sadness and decrepitude of old age is personified in this bizarre old gentleman, and yet I can see wisdom there, and hope in the blossoms that have popped forth from the gnarled branches! The technique is amazing-- I love the overpowering vertical aspect of the rain and the drooping Fu Manchu moustache and beard, and the wrinkles in the thin face...a sobering yet strangely comforting vision--his courage and fortitude triumphs over the ravages of Time.
