Blouh Jobe by DanielKarlsson Blouh Jobe by DanielKarlsson
Digital, Corel Painter

This one is pure meditation for me. This kind of subject, composition and style is what comes most natural to me. I could do these forever, but I realise that I also want to expand my skills and for that I have to challenge myself. But sometimes it's nice to do these, just to relax my brain and temper.

I hear you on this, it is nice to just go back every once in a while to your comfort zone and paint. But I want to expand as well, which is why I am loving the class I am taking right now (Children's Book Illustration) because I am being forced to try different compositions, do more research, plan out layouts and colours and mood. I am a firm believer that the best way to learn is to ask a butt-load of questions and practice what you get from asking those questions. I think the best way to get better is always having a standard that is just above the level we are at; to ever strive to attain that, and to try different ways to achieve that level.
Nonetheless, the dramatic lighting, colour and shapes in this piece are what made me fall in love with your work. Keep it up, Dan!

Oh, I wish could attend any course. But with my job, and the general lack of any worthwile courses in Stockholm that doesn't cost a third of my annual salary, it's really difficult.
I agree with you, and you put it very well with the level and all.
THANX!!!
