Haha... Could be that they are, yes, but I don't remember what my intention was. The basic idea is to use the image and features of a cute and innocent child and hinting at something perverse and twisted. The soldier's helmet is dressed with flowers and hinting of a peace-loving personality, and the backpack is sort of a reference to school and youth. The child is smiling and putting out his tongue, almost like he is sort of taunting the skull, but it's really because he's about to make out with it. The real victim is the skull, who has a paniced look to it. The maggots, bones and roaches are references to death and the evil nature that is lurking BEHIND the happy childlike surface.
